As a Human Resources professional, I spend a good amount of time thinking about culture, leadership and engagement. When I heard Cy Wakeman speak at a conference a few months ago, her reality-based leadership concepts resonated with me big time. She forces you to think differently about the conventional wisdom you have always believed in when it comes to leadership. The No Ego book is the latest extension of Cy's no drama mantra. Like previous books, she lays things out straight, gives plenty of real life examples and offers very practical guidance and tips. Some of her advice is fairly radical and might not be a feasible path forward for all companies. Overall, this is a worthy read. I'm planning to apply at some of the tips and tricks to eliminate entitlement and help drive more accountability across my organization.

Quick read if you push through it. Seems like a bit of a sales pitch sense taking action often requires the surveys and coaching from the firm. But, it’s a good framework for thinking through the problems at work. It’s direct d more towards leaders. Assigned reading to employees would likely feel like a shift of work to them.

Again, Cy Wakeman delivers a brilliant, yet simple plan to remove drama from the workplace. Since reviewing the piece in her pre-release book club, I have found several opportunities to implement changes allowing me to lead my team to greatness. Today for instance, a BMW (bitching, moaning, and whining individual) waltzed into my office to go on and on about how another department completely dropped the ball on a project, even going so far as asking how it's even possible they still have a job ... My question to the individual was simple, "Instead of judging them, what are you doing to help?" The realization that the negative energy was not getting them anywhere, allowing us to then discuss what great would look like right now! WOW, a simple redirection quickly remove the drama, and brought about an empowered employee! The ego is not your amigo ... LOVE being a part of the Reality Based Leadership movement!

This book gives leaders tools to help others arrive at their own solutions about how to success within their given reality. The book shatters old myths around how you get others to engage and the value of buy in. The text itself is valuable but the most useful section is the toolkit in the appendix. It includes a variety of resources to help you put the concepts presented in the text to work. None of her tactics are difficult to implement - these are all methods to help others (and yourself!) reframe how to think about situations and devise solutions to succeed. If you are looking to drive accountability into an organization, this is book for you!

Great book in being able to understand the motivation of humans - either others or ourselves. Brings back the need for administrators to talk about reality-based themes. Highly recommend.

One of the most useful and practical leadership books on the market. Leading your team by focusing on personal accountability is the key theme. I've shared this with several coworkers who have then shared it with others. I'm most of the way through my second reading and continue to pick up useful guidance.

Really enjoyed Cy's latest book! No Ego is full of insights and ah-ha moments with numerous strategies for more effective self management and understanding those around us. If we can put even a portion of her philosophies into practice we can be on our way to a better workplace with less drama and more of what we're actually there to accomplish. Great read!
