We were required to use the book for a directing class, and while I appreciated the diversity of the short plays and the goal behind 365 plays, some were too much. As a learning tool, it was helpful in being imaginative and learning how to guide people through your directions, but I wouldn't personally seek it out.

Plays great, love reading one each day.

Fascinating works.

I loved reading these plays! Even in college I always preferred the absurd scripts, although the classics were required study and performance, whenever I had a chance I would go for the avant-garde. If you are imaginative and are very right-brained, I think you will enjoy this book.True, it is not the typical Samuel French or Dramatist's Play Service script, but if you are looking for that, you already know where to find it. Some of the plays have no dialogue and are only pedestrian action or even some nonsense. But if you are able to look deeper, there is a pervasive social commentary that is the through-line of the book. Good for reading on the train...5 Stars!

Listen up: Brilliant writer -- Mount Holyoke, MacArthur genius grant, Pulitzer Prize, she's da bomb, all right? -- lives with her cats and her blues-musician husband in Venice (that's L.A.'s Venice), wakes up on Nov. 13, 2002, decides it'd be a good idea to write a play every day for a year (no exceptions), and she's honing her craft but this is also the run-up to the war in Iraq so of course a lot of her one-page sketches bash Bush real; husband says "cool," next thing you know there are theaters doing weeks and months of her 365-play cycle all over the country. (Got it goin' on right now in Seattle.) But in the meantime, you can enjoy this book -- which has its bland patches, sure (I sympathize with whoever has to perform the September plays) -- but Suzan-Lori Parks didn't learn from James Baldwin how to write drama like *Topdog/Underdog* for nothin'. At their best, Parks' playlets are miniature lessons in how to write for the stage.Parks has her fixations -- Abraham Lincoln (he lives to age 89); arms that are frozen before the knife can kill; racial injustice; literalized metaphors (an actual Window of Opportunity that actually closes shut); stage directions that can never be enacted; playing possum; plutocracy ("The Presidents Day Sale"); warmonger dictators -- but it's interesting to watch her ring her themes' changes.Many plays are startling and compact, with topics like watching over a sleeping stranger as an image of compassion ("The 1st Constant"); spoofing Neil Simon ("Barefoot and Pregnant in the Park"); Bush murdering his own soldier and calling it "poignant" ("House to House"); mothers protecting and relinquishing their children ("Behind the Veil of the Goddess"); breaking the cycle of poverty and crime ("My Father Was a Famous Mother"); women and men always failing to get along ("Epic Bio-Pic," "Vase" and "Bear"); representing despair and its cure metaphorically ("Plenty"); and ridiculing sectarian war ("Everybody's Got an Aunt Jemimah").Some plays overlap; some plays interrupt others; and some of Suzan-Lori Parks' plays stretch people's minds out to infinity.

Let's face it, most of these playlets are garbage. They would almost have to be. S. L.-P. is a talented and interesting playwright. Top Dog/Under Dog deserved the Pulitzer, but these are writing exercises and most of them should remain that way. Don't be fooled by the hype. Yes some of them are gems and those should be done--like the seven mentioned above but as a whole they are pedestrian and mind numbing.

I was fortunate to be part of the festival with my high school students and now own a signed copy after meeting Suzan-Lori at the opening night of the San Francisco festival. Our production was dramaturged by my students, who created a thematic sense of seven of the gems in this playbook, and performed brilliantly (still one of my crowning glories). She is a down to earth person and a talented writer with an important voice. These are wonderfully short pieces that have also been effective in my acting classroom.

Compounding interest always wins.Minimize tax liability and fees.Diversify to protect yourself when down times come.Invest more when everything is on sale.Rebalance your investments, preferably annually.Just because I shared these basic highlights does not mean you do not need to read the book. Far from it. They absolutely mean you need to read it, because all of the principles in the list make sense, and you can know you should do them, but unless you know how, that knowledge is useless.You could flounder about on your own: I have done so most of my life. You can remake the mistakes others have made, and learn on your own. But that will be (and has been) an expensive choice.You can sit on the sidelines, living in fear and keeping your assets and investments in cash rather than getting into investing at all. This may be a really good book by itself if you have not read the first book - " Money - Master the game" by Tony.In my case, I read the first book and expected that this second book will provide some new information specific to the current environment we are in (2017 - when this book came out). I did not get any new information out of this book. If you want to get value from Tony's research (which is 5 stars - really great work) read the first book. Money - Master the game MONEY Master the Game: 7 Simple Steps to Financial Freedom

If you want to read a 200 page advertisement for creative planning this is your book. Tony appears to be pitching a company that is like vanguard but charges much more. He says to buy index funds but then plugs companies that pay him, that will in turn charge you extra fees to own the said index funds that he tells you to buy. If you buy this book you will mostly be paying for an advertisement for the companies that pay Tony. You can watch commercials for free if that is what you’re after.

Don't buy it if you already have his "Money - Master the Game".

Technically this book could be about 30 pages focused on how-2 only without all of the drawn on stories and repetitive content. Pretty much the entire advice consists of investing in the stock market and pushing to become a client of the co-writer of this book if you have 100k to invest. I did buy 3 of these because all of the proceeds (I hope) are getting donated and that's awesome but would have done that with 20 pages book with concise to the point advice to save me time. I do recommend it but don't expect to get anything from this book that's going to be an "aHa! moment.

This book has some good advice for novice investors - mainly that they should be investing. And it goes on to say that index funds are a good investment vehicle for most people. Agreed. And I've liked Tony Robbins' materials in the past; Power Talk II specifically.But I think Mr. Robbins has changed since those early, eager, idealistic, hopeful days. Now he seems more like an infomercial salesman to me. He's pitching the Creative Planning company and strongly suggesting his readers use that company for their financial planning.I signed up for their services, and they lost $25,000 of my money in two weeks. Granted, there was a market downturn, but their investment choices have not bounced back as quickly as the market itself. I fired Creative and am now investing in index funds at Vanguard. I wish I'd saved the money I spent on the book, and especially on hiring this firm - who by the way, still gets paid even when they fail miserably. Invest on your own and don't listen to Tony Robbins anymore - unless you go for the old Tony Robbins stuff when he was still for real.

This book is a good read. Pretty much just invest in low cost mutual funds to save on expenses. He is also pushes for his company where there is a minimum 100,000 to participate in. That company is called Creative Planning. Pretty much this is a front to put your money in their company.

Condensed, actionable version of "Money; Master the Game". Much shorter and to the point with information you can put to use right away. I would recommend getting "Money; Master the Game" for a more background and in depth information.
