I'm comfortable in the kitchen and have put together many a good meal, both from recipe and from good old fashion scratch. That said, baking bread always gave me pause. The litany of bread baking advice found online and in many cookbooks ranges from scientific to something like alchemy and none inspired in me much confidence to knead or even not knead bread (nor did the few I tried lead to well baked bread!).This book changed all that. I can bake bread now.The style is detailed in a way that most recipe books are not and in a way that I actually learn from. For example, if you are the type of person who encounters in a bread recipe "shape the dough into a round" and angrily wonders "HOW IS THE RIGHT WAY TO DO THAT?!" then this book is for you (hint: the Handbook describes in detail how to shape dough into a round).Best of all, the resulting bread is fantastic. I've not tried all the yeasted dough recipes but those I have (doughnuts, bagels, english muffins, pizza dough) all turned out better in texture and taste than others I'd tried pre-Handbook.Sourdough took me a while to get but now I kick ass at that too. All thanks to the River Cottage Bread Handbook.

I borrowed this book from the library, and after reading through the book, I ordered it. It explains how to make sourdough starter correctly, and most important, it has a real recipe for rye bread which I have been searching for. I started the sourdough, and I am about half way through the process. I have never created a starter because I did not have time to bake frequently. This book explains how to store starter for 2 weeks, so now I do have time to make sourdough bread. As other reviews have said, this is not exactly a beginners bread book, but if you read through all the instructions, the author does explain how to make bread that a beginner could follow. The only part a beginner may have a problem with is the amount of time to knead the bread dough. I know what it should feel like and act like before baking. It just takes practice, and every one makes mistakes at first. I plan on ordering a bread form for rising rye bread, and I will go from there. The measurements are both in English and Metric, so I can use either. The book also has other basic bread recipes, and ways to use old bread. I will use this book alot.

I have always wanted to learn to bake bread, but never thought I had the time or talent to do it right. On vacation this summer I ran across this book in a cookbook shop and requested it for Christmas. Lucky me that my husband was listening! This book is super. I spent a good plane ride reading it from start to finish. The step-by-step guide to bread baking, almost a breadmaking 101, introduced the equipment and explained the importance of each ingredient.The basic recipe that can be altered at will was a great way to introduce creativity into baking, something I've always thought of as quite rigid. I have made almost 10 batches of bread (30 loaves!) now using the basic recipe and I'm having a blast! It's wonderful to see, feel and taste the difference one ingredient can make. I'm also gaining great confidence in my ability to "do it right" and yet be creative. From this book I now understand what the dough should "feel" like, how the yeast should smell and what happened when my first loaves came out too chewy.I've also made the breadsticks, foccacia and, this evening, the bagels. All of the recipes were straight-forward and easy to follow - especially after taking the time to read the book cover-to-cover. My family is thrilled with my new hobby and so am I. This book is great. I recommend it for everyone, especially beginners.

Such a great book, and a great size too

I love this book because it's more than just recipes; Stevens gives a real education in bread-making and encourages the kind of creativity that belongs in the kitchen. Don't open this book for the first time in the kitchen with your bag of flour at your side, ready to start baking. You need to spend some time reading beforehand and THEN head into the kitchen and get down to business. Don't expect to be a master a first, but there's loads of room to grow with this book on your counter.

Seriously? Reading a book about bread? Yes! Absolutely. And I loved every page.Very informative and delightful read.I plan to go have the spine cut off the book and get it wire bound so it will open flat when working in the kitchen and trying the recipes.

This is a great little book the recipes are simple and easy to follow and the results are great, try the scones if you have ever had a Devon cream tea this will bring back memories.

This is a review of the 2014 edition of The Dutch Oven Cookbook. I borrowed the 2006 version and wanted to purchase my own copy. I discovered there was a new printing. I wondered if the recipes were the same, but I couldn't find any information about that in any of the reviews. So I thought I would provide that information in case anyone else was wondering the same thing. The 2006 edition has the pears on the cover. The 2014 edition has a red enamel dutch oven on the cover. There are a few differences. In the Soups, Chiles and Chowders section, Pasta Fagioli Soup was removed, and replaced with Chicken Posole Soup. The other recipes are all there. Some have been reworked a bit, like Dutch Oven Scrambled Eggs is now Dutch Oven Eggs with Pancetta and Kale. A few others have slight changes in the name of the recipe, but the recipe is unchanged. There are more pictures in the new one, which is not necessarily better. Sometimes imagination is better than the picture! One other thing I wanted to mention is the size of the book itself. The 2014 book is smaller is size than the 2006 version. 2006 is 9 1/4 x 7 1/4. 2014 is 8 3/4 x 7 1/4. Not much, but enough to make it seem small. 2014 has more pages, 163 v. 147 for 2006. The book has some very nice recipes in it. Definitely worth the money to purchase. My own personal preference would be the 2006 first edition. It's plain, but I like it. This is still a good purchase though, and I enjoy the recipes.

An excellent cookbook for the Dutch oven.My wife bought me my first Dutch oven along with this cookbook last Christmas (2017). It’s almost been a year and I’ve cooked so many recipes from this book. We’ve loved every single recipe, particularly the provincial soup, garden minestrone, smothered chicken with mushrooms, chicken posole (amazing), maple-glazed root vegetables, etc. I’ve made many of see multiple times throughout the year. I’m really looking forward to trying the lemongrass chicken pho, kalua pork, and hot and sour soup, and the gumbo recipe.Also, I was new to cooking when I received this Dutch oven and cookbook last year, and I did not find the recipes hard to follow at all. I enjoy the build up of flavors these recipes develop, and everyone has loved the meals and soups.Highly recommend this cookbook!

I appreciate the book, it’s very well written and photos are great. Some recipes are regional and would be quite expensive to make outside the area.Others call for ingredients and seasonings I don’t normally stock in my kitchen, so I will have to evaluate the cost and storage of additional purchases.That being said, I do look forward to trying a few of these recipes along with some of my own. Was hoping to see a higher percentage of ‘usable to me’ recipes. However, that does not discredit the book.It’s just my personal taste and what I know my family will and will not eat. If you like cooking adventure, don’t have food allergies or picky eaters, you’ll probably really have fun with the recipes!

The recipes are interesting, but I should have ordered Dutch Oven for two. Six to eight servings would have us eating the same thing for a week, and I don't want to have to buy a bigger pot to accommodate the recipes.

This is anexcellent cookbook. The best feature is the short one page recipes. The types of recipes are unusual and sometimes exotic but also many old familiar stew recipes are included. I have tried 2 and both were easy and good tasting. These recipes are for a Dutch oven so nothing is short order or fast but the results of slow cooking are delicious. The book itself is colorfully illustrated and easy to manage while chopping ingredients.

We've made a few recipes from this book and looking forward to making more. Delicious, easy to prepare recipes that make me happy to get more use out of my dutch oven. Thank you for an informative book that has such easy, yummy meals. BIG WIN of a cookbook for dutch ovens.

Literally looks like a bunch of random pictures of girls with flowers... as if someone printed random google images. So disappointing.

This is a compilation of pictures of flower girls from it seems different coloring books. Not sure how they were able to print this legally. Oh well, it's for my 2 year old niece and she will just color everywhere anyway. Serves it's purpose but is not original.

The pictures to color inside are a bit boring, but nice "stuffer" for flower girl bag.

This book is 18 pages and will take you less than 10 minutes to read. Needs more substance, the author merely scratches the surface on how to identify potential breakouts. Needs to have some additional information to be worthwhile.

Not impressive

This "book" just consists of a few pages of content. It is simply regurgitating simplistic information about breakouts that you can find elsewhere on the web. None of it is useful or helpful for developing a "simple, proven" strategy.Also, beware of the many fake four- and five-star reviews for this book. If you click on each reviewer's name, note how each one is giving glowing reviews for the same set of books as the others. Fake, fake, fake.

Basic strategy for starting obviously you need to read more books. It is a pitty that the author did not add more graphics with the strategy completed.

First, it look 6 minutes to read. Second, this was extremely basic info that you can find on google. Glad I have Kindle Unlimited, if you’re purchasing, don’t waste your time. As a kicker, the “free downloads” lead to a dead link lol.

Although unpredictable trades can be daunting, this book still excites me. When you do not like to waste a lot of time and just want the information, the facts, the ins and outs about proven and failed success/techniques in regards to a pattern, a method, etc, go to someone who already knows. Therefore, this eBook, by those who have already experienced, studied, invested and researched a particular strategy and want to break it down, sounds like a plan. You take simple proven strategies and you identify the proper set of classifications and recommendations for profits and you implement them and then you are successful, it is a win win. Many different types of trades needs to be understood and implemented in order to be successful in even one strategy. Breakout Trading sounds simple enough, but the majority of breakouts are false alarms. You still need to have the basic understanding of other types of trading including (but not limited to) MACD, RSI, reverse breakouts, Bollinger Bands, moving averages and ATR. Therefore, just because you have this little book alone, don't mean that you can go out and spend thousands on your next trade if you don't have the understanding and concepts of other strategies. Other situations plays a major role as well, keeping up with changes in fundamental News, economic or global events and any other changes that could be driving trader sentiments. This lets me know even more, that unpredictable trading is not for me right now, but great to have in my pocket for the future.

I've been on the lookout for a book that catalogues the constellations a little more compehensively than just your average book of Greek myths, and this volume fills that void admirably. I love that it covers both the mythic and some of the historical/scientific information connected with the various stars. I could do with the text portions being a little bigger, but the illustrations are incredible and there's still plenty of facts, stories, and lovely star names that I wouldn't have come across otherwise. Well worth the price!

This book is very well made and makes an excellent gift, anyone who likes to learn or is curious about the stars would love this!! Lots of details about the constellations and their scientific classification. Would highly recommend and might get as a gift to a friend.
