Doesn't really cover the areas where your average tourist (us) would need a map of.More of an outback trail map at best, not good for the regular vacationer.Now, if I were backpacking -- I'd want this map set.

Like all National Geographic trail maps, these are great! I have yet to notice any inaccuracies. One noteworthy feature is a zoomed in inset of Mt. Washington and the northern Presidential range, which is invaluable given the number of trails there and the potential for navigational difficulty above the treeline. They are waterproof and tear-resistant, so this is a durable map set to carry in your pack when your hike. I always carry these when I hike in the Whites.

Nice map and does what it's supposed to do. However, it doesn't use a standard scale so you can't us a military style protractor to locate specific coordinates. I'm sure most people don't care, but a few will.

While visiting some family in the Black Hills I ordered both North and South Black Hills maps. The maps are durable for hiking and won't tear like your normal paper maps. Easy to read, has most of the trails marked and includes the necessary topo info. They also have the roads well marked which we also used them as road maps as well as for hiking. We left them for our family members to continue to use. I have never had an issue with Nat Geo maps.

As is typical of the NG maps series, these two maps are highly detailed, waterproof, tear-resistant maps. They will withstand lots of use and will be very beneficial to any explorer of the Black Hills. Be aware that some minor roads go by different names than the numbered route identifiers on the map. That's not a big problem; just know that guide books and locals may identify a road differently from how the map does.

I like the NatGeo maps because they don’t tear. We horseback ride and rely on the map daily. I agree not all of the trails are on the map, but it is better than nothing. At least we could guesstimate the length and time it would take to ride the trail. I like the legend and information it gives. I like the size of print No need for a magnifying glass. We will buy another map for our next trip.

This a great little book. It gives some history of Eastern Market, details some of the sellers and products you find, and also offers up some recipes that feature local ingredients. A good companion for anyone who shops regularly at Eastern Market, as well as a great introduction to those who have never gone down there.

I also as the first reviewer know the authors Lois Johnson and Margaret Thomas. Their approach to writing to me is as fresh as the produce found in the market. I was extremely lucky recently to be part of a tour of the market led by them. Their enthusiasm for the subject is very evident first hand as is their obvious repoire with the traders who generally greet the authors with smiles and hugs. The whole experience I felt was very worthwhile as is reading the book. It has become a stock "Detroit" gift, when I go back to England I take copies for my family and friends who delight in this little piece of Americana.

Sure, Margaret Thomas is a good friend of mine, but I can still manage to be objective. This is a really great book.Set out as a walking guide to the Market, the text is clear and informative, but maintains a friendly, informal style, just as if you are walking along with the authors in the Market. You will learn about the Market's nearly 200 year history, meet the store owners and get some great recipes while on your "walk". Of course, all the ingredients can be found right in this open air marketplace.Michigan is a four season state, and this market is open in all seasons, not just summer. A section featuring 8 full menus is organized by seasons-A spring Mediterranean feast features lamb, summer brings fresh salads, autumn has satisfying soups, and a winter highlight is veal scaloppine.In the index, you will also find individual recipes from appetizers to vegetables (more than 25 unique offerings for vegetables alone) The recipes come from shop owners, employees, farmers, dealers, shoppers and restaurant owners, as well as the authors themselves. Wonderful color photos by Bruce Harkness capture the hustle and bustle of the Eastern Market, and spotlight fresh Michigan Produce.Like the market itself, this book is "highly useful, convenient and beneficial".

Margaret Thomas and Lois Johnson did a splendid job writing "Detroit's Eastern Market". I found the book a delight because I not only shopped there many times but when I was a young I sold produce there grown on my Uncles farm in Northville, MI.. I tried some of the recipes and again I was very impressed. I conceder myself a friend of Margaret and hope to have my copy of her book signed soon and cook a dish from the book for her too.

great novel, wonderful, true life story

I was absolutely absorbed by this book. I looked forward to every time I picked it up to read. I must start by saying that I am Jewish and absolutely do NOT share the religious views of Corrie Ten Boom. But, this story is so engrossing and moving that my religious views were irrelevant. This is the remarkable story of a remarkable family that literally laid their lives out to save Jews in Holland during WWII. These are people I wish I could hug. Don't be put off by the religious views expressed. Those views caused heroic people to show mercy and empathy in the most brutal period in recent history. The views were not preachy. I only wish that I could do something good for any person that would give respect for the wonderful people in this story.

Nothing in the description informs the reader that this is an abridged version. Many key parts have been cut and section edited and changed so that they read dramatically differently. I ended having to re-buy the other version (the 35th anniversary one) so I could have the entire book.

I have read this book probably 6 times over the course of my life. You think I’d be tired of it by now. Not only do I love reading it and getting something new from it each time, I make sure I have a copy on hand to give out to others. Yes, it is that good. It is a true story of a tragic time in the history of mankind. It details the love, warmth and courage of a family of three; an elderly father and his two spinster daughters who risk everything to save their Jewish neighbors and strangers alike from the Nazi death camps. Read this book! You will not regret it!

I sit here at a loss for words because I know that nothing I can say will begin to display the emotions and thoughts swirling around in my mind. Ms. Boom's story touched a piece of me so deeply, I'm afraid that I will never be the same now. Seeing what she saw, hearing what she heard, things such as these will forever be with me.There are so many things that I have learned when it comes to this story, I would like to state just a few of them here below- not enough to give anything in this story away, but enough to draw you in so that you will want to read what this marvelous woman has to say."There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still." -Casper ten Boom passed on by Corrie."'But,' she said, 'this is what the past is for! Every experience God gives us, every person He puts in our lives is the perfect preparation for a future that only He can see.'" -Corrie ten Boom"'There is sin in this world, and death and loss are consequences of that sin. But you know what? God feels it too. Every tear we cry? God sheds it too. He hurts with us because He loves us.' Her voice grew soft. 'I felt Him, Trent. When I was all alone, my shoulders shaking from grief, I felt His arms wrap around me and His peace embrace me, and I knew. I wasn't alone, He was with me.'" -Corrie ten BoomI cannot began to express to each of you enough the need to read this book at least once in your life time. Please, I promise you, you will not be the same after. You will laugh with Corrie, cry with Corrie, cry out with Corrie in the pain she had to endure, but most importantly God will touch your heart with the miracles He provided her with through all of this. Just take a chance, go back into history a little ways with Ms. Boom, you won't be disappointed.

Whether you are Jew, Christian, Catholic or pagan, this book of history is enlightening for your journey. There are spiritual mentions that shouldn't keep you from reading this book. Just as you would sit respectfully in front of an aunt at a Holiday feast listening politely to a tale, so shall you listen to this one in all its entirety. Every story should be heard. Tin Boom's story holds your attention from concert to cover, bringing you along as if you feel sorrow and joy along side. Encourage others to read it like I was encouraged to read it. Pass history on so that love is spread no matter what religion you are.

It's taken me 6 decades to finally get around to reading Corrie ten Boom's remarkable story. I'm in awe at Corrie's honesty in her weakness, but more in the faith in both Corrie and her sister,Betsy, that sustained them through atrocities I can only imagine....A faith that even enabled them to find joy in fleas! Reading this story has certainly put my own difficulties into perspective and has inspired me to look so much more closely at my own faith. I am truly grateful that I have been so blessed, but I know now that I have to trust God more in every aspect of my life. Thank you, Corrie ten Boom, for sharing your story and for sharing the love of God with a very dark world.

Riveting true story of occupied Holland during WWII. Could not put down, though I knew the unspeakable would occur. A good reminder for today of how fascism starts: First the "state" controls the media and commerce, then bullying comes, with rationing, brutality, curfews, disappearances, genocide. But the hatred, oppression and unspeakable crimes against humanity did not stop the love and good works of this extremely talented, intelligent and faithful family. Their love, their story, and the Resistance, has survived. With many family photos that remind one of one's own relatives only a generation or so ago, and make the story unquestionably come to life. An excellent, excellent read for lovers or history, mystery, or human drama.

For several years, my wife kept trying to convince me to read The Hiding Place. But I thought it sounded like a little child's book. So I kept putting it off. Boy, was I wrong! What an awesome story. I'd give it more than two thumbs up, but I only have 2 thumbs! Well worth taking the time to read, ponder, and absorb how an unseen power guides our lives far more than we realize. Although readers need not be biologists, some familiarity with scientific inquiry is helpful. I found the chapter on evaluation of text analysis methods most useful. It explains the role of challenge competitions in advancing the field and describes the common evaluation metrics well enough to facilitate understanding of the research literature. All chapters include numerous web links to software tools, data sources, and relevant research groups. This is a particular strength of the book, and helps readers bridge the gap between text analysis as it was in 2005, and as it has become since the book's publication.It is recommended for scientists who want to learn about text analysis by observing it's practical applications in biology. Readers preferring a "straight" introduction without the biology might turn to The Text Mining Handbook: Advanced Approaches in Analyzing Unstructured Data or the last chapter in Data Mining Techniques: For Marketing, Sales, and Customer Relationship Management.
