I bought this text for my daughter who homeschools and is in 7th grade. I know it will be a little challenging but she would like to take Algebra as an 8th grader. I have looked at many companies and haven't found a single one that does such a great job of setting the lessons up and putting everything into units. At the beginning of a lesson, there are 3-5 examples of the new information. Then there are 7-15 guided practice problems (we do these together). Then what I think is genius, the remaining 20-40 problems apply what concept was taught to many aspects of everyday life (charts, graphs, word problems, etc.). This helps real-world application take place which for me, as a kid, never happened with texts like Saxon. After the main lesson, there are 5-15 review problems of previous concepts so the skills aren't lost. Then if desired, the student can do the standardized problems if they are preparing for the state tests. Mixed throughout the units are mid-ch quizes and a test after each chapter. They are also mini lessons you can do that explain how to use a graphing calculator and other concepts. I am so glad I found such a great company and text for my daughter. We also looked at the Course 2 and 3 texts by Holt McDougal and they have the same setup. The only thing was then my daughter wouldn't be able to take Algebra in 8th grade. The Course 2 is for 7th graders and is a good text if your child is average (not lower or excellent). The course 3 is for 8th graders who will take Pre-Algebra as a 9th grader. The same concepts as in both the Course 3 and Pre-Algebra books with the exception of a little more trig and geometry in the end of the Pre-Algebra book. If we don't get to the end of the book this year, that won't be a big deal because rarely do regular school finish a text in 1 year. She will always cover geometry and trig later.

This has 7th and 8th grade standards all mixed up. It is a nice book, but you need to do your homework to accomplish all the standards for your grade level, the chapters are grouped logically by topic not by grade level. This makes it good for review of 7th grade material or intro of 8th. We use it for both grades at my school.

Arrived in excellent condition and was a perfect copy of the version of this book I needed. Holt's Algebra 1 is a classic, yet updated work that really helps kids understand the conceptual aspect of learning algebra.

Good condition. So far it looks exactly the same as the ebook. The ebook is hard to use.

I'm sure this is a fine book, but it is the common core edition which is vastly different than the 2011 edition. They look almost identical, the only difference being the little sticker in the lower right hand corner. Do NOT buy this if you don't want the common core edition.

We learn about the strategies employed by frogs to reproduce, or by snakes to identify prey, or by trees to attach polen to beetles. While learning about the science behind such activities and how they evolved, the author leads the reader through his travel log, meeting people and species and learning much about the history of the region he is visiting.Besides all the interesting science, the author also provides a very deep character description of the people who live in this remote frontier. The stories range from rubber tappers left over from a period of abundance, to old indians who became westernized, to occupants moving there from the south due to government incentives. Each has a story and a way to deal with the challenges of the forest; some have a way to prosper in the exact same circumstances in which others fail. Some characters are presented as integrated in the forest, some as aliens beaten by the forest, some as leaders beating the forest.Most amazing than all the history, social aspects and science however are the narrative abilities of the author. The book is a work of art, as it becomes clear that every word has been hand picked and every metaphor was chosen to provide the reader with the correct image, texture, taste, sound and smell of the forest. I have taught Geography including subjects like the Rain Forest. I was always emphasizing that the Amazon gives the earth some 24% of our oxygen. But was not truly aware of the difficult of life on the Amazon and its rivers toward the Pacific and the natives who died living in the region and those who were forced to work in the area under severe weather, dangers and health hazards. Those promoting the issues of current warm climate now should read this book and visit the outsider destruction of this region.Hats off to the author;the reader should have a dictionary all with the book given the author's vocabulary. Great book for the classroom for vocabulary, Latin, Biology and Geography.

Very interesting account of the environment and life -- both animal and human -- on the upper Amazon. Well-written, personal -- and discouraging about the future of such areas. The author has an amazing vocabulary -- keep a dictionary handy!

very disappointing.I was expecting a lot more from this famous company!unfortunately it seems money is their object!the level 1 Pre k, was around 20 dollars and all it was a work book with the letters from a to z and really nothing well thought out to do with the letter.LETTER A make a letter A with celery and then eat them! seriously? hooked on phonics?so the whole colorful workbook is just pages with three letters on it.. nothing in that book teaches reading.just basic abcs, ok, then the story books they provide are VERY difficult, NO impossible for the kids to read unless they already know how to read a little, but this book will not teach them the reading skills to able to to read those book.so VERY bad book selection! did teaches actually select these books??

Unfortunately, I was thinking it would be similar to the original Hooked on Phonics. But, the revision of the program is much like that of other programs that do not seem to work as well as the original Hooked on Phonics.

I bot this an I still cannt reed are spill.

We have a three year old grandson and he now knows his alphabet forwards and backwards and can give us the letter and how they sound. When we start the DVD his face lights up. The music is great as it goes through the letters. He shows us the letters that are on the playing cards that come with the set as they are shown on the screen. He is learning at his own speed, he picked up the work book on his own and brought it over to us and explained the letters, the sound, and the word associated with each letter. He has expanded his vocabulary tremendously. OK Grandpa's and Grandma's, it is time for you to enjoy those kids as we have enjoyed ours in helping them learn and have fun at the same time. At three years old, he is ready to read. Enjoy.

You get a workbook, online games, DVD with lots of content, and 3 books. My kids are LOVING the hands on variety and are learning so quickly. We love this and plan to use all 8 levels!

The disc was defective and unfortunately we bought it more than 30 days ago (the return window) and didn’t open to find this out right away so we can’t get it replaced by Amazon. Also i wouldn’t recommend wasting the money on the disc because you can just view this program for free in the YouTube app on your TV (so far all i have found were defective so i guess it depends if you want to view the defective program for free or for a cost)

This does not appear to be a Level 1 packet. I would expect level 1 to have the blended sounds like b+eg = beg or a+t = at.This is advanced for a child who already knows how to read certain words. The old version of HOP is better.

I got this for my grandkids, ages 4, 3, and 1. I was using them on FaceTime to help them learn the sounds the letters make. Within the first day, even the one year old was making the M sound. Now the kids are identifying letters all around them.

Janice Maynard is one of my favourite authors and I just love her writing style so she is one of a few Harlequin Desire authors I read.Hot Texas Nights is the first book in the Texas Cattleman's Club set in Houston and it was a great start to the series!The plot was very interesting, the main focus was on Aria and Ethan relationship but we got hints about future books in the series that really made me read them all.Aria and Ethan know one another for many years but they were only friends.Ethan is not looking for a relationship, he doesn't want to get married and since he knows Aria is looking for a long term relationship he made sure they will only be friendsBut one night of passion will change everything between them..As much as Ethan is trying to forget his hot night with Aria he can't get her out of his head, so when he has the chance to help Aria by paying her father's debt and acting as her fake fiance he jumps head first and prevent her father from forcing her to marry someone she doesn't care for at allAria always had deeper feelings for Ethan but she hide them for many years but now when they are acting as a loving couple it's getting harder and harder to hide her true feelings.I really enjoyed reading about Aria and Ethan.Aria is a strong, independent woman and she is not afraid to speak her mind and the chemistry between her and Ethan was very strong but he is so afraid to act like his dad so he keeps pushing Aria away.I can't wait to discover the secrets of some of the secondary characters like Ryder Currin, Sterling Perry and to find out who the villain behind it all is.

My wife is one of these people depicted in the book, even down to the trucks that brought her out here to Arizona at age 6, 70 years ago. Very, very accurate. Her cousin, we discovered when visiting him, was one of the contractors bringing Blacks out to the cotton fields because, believe it or not, there were not that many Hispanics in AZ at that time. We intend to follow up with communication with the author and trips down to those desert towns (we already made one and my wife cried most of the time remembering how tough it was) to talk to some of the many people she designates as old timers who know the area and its history. Full circle: our son-in-law now works as a teacher in Stanfield, one of those towns. It's as poor now as it was then.

I would not hesitate to buy this book for anyone struggling with anxiety, and I would even use it for someone going through a stressful period of their life. The exercises and quotes apply well to both.

For those self proclaimed "worry worts" (myself included), this book is ideal as a daily reminder during Lent that, if we have a personal relationship with Jesus, there is no room for worry and fear. Why? Because Jesus has our backs and "all things work together for good to them that love God and are called according to His purpose." All things work for good- even our sufferings and crosses. How comforting is that? We just have to trust in the Lord and His plan for us. "Give Up Worry for Lent!" is the perfect daily Lenten program with a short Scripture verse regarding worry, fear, hope, trust, surrender, peace, etc., followed by a reflection on that verse, a practical response and a short prayer. It is a great way to unplug for a few minutes each day and remember all that the Lord has done for us and how he continues to work in our lives. The book teaches us that the closer we become to Jesus through prayer, reading Scripture and receiving the Sacraments, the more peace (and, therefore, less worry and anxiety) we will experience in our lives.I highly recommend this book to all who want to experience an enriched Lenten season.

This book is an absolute treasure for your Lenten journey or anytime you need a bit of encouragement. Gary Zimak has a gift for moving all of us, no matter where we are on our faith journey. Daily exercises include a bible verse, meditation, call to action and prayer. Let's face it, the season of Lent can be pretty overwhelming. What do I give up for Lent? Will giving this item up help me to get closer to God, or am I giving XYZ up only to show off to my friends?The title of Gary Zimak's new book gives fellow Catholics a fantastic suggestion--why not give up worry? Really, if you think about it, that idea is truly a no-brainer. After all, whether they'll admit to it or not, every human being has that tendency to fret over the smallest parts of their day-to-day lives.The book takes a day-by-day approach to the Lenten season. Every two or three pages are dedicated to one of the 40 days of Lent, and includes a Bible verse, a small reflection on the particular verse, a "respond" section allowing the reader to get involved, and finally, a brief prayer. The language is simple, so even those who rarely attend church will be able to understand it.I have to say, I am really looking forward to using this book this Lenten season. Giving up worry is going to be much harder than giving up chocolate, but I think I'm ready for the challenge.

I highly recommend this book for Lent or any time of the year. Gary Zimak's books never disappoint and this one definitely won't! I'm also a seasoned worrier, and this book was like opening a window and letting in fresh air. Each day contains truths to ponder & meditate upon so we can "Give Up Worry For Lent"!!!! I will be using this book a lot!!!
