There are many good books on the mental game, and this is one of them. The author is a psychiatrist, but in this case he is no mere academic. He was a national caliber table tennis player in his youth, and has spent many years coaching athletes, esp on the PGA tour, on how to improve their mental game. What I really like is the emphasis on hard work, preparation and improving your motivation. There are no gimmicks, pat answers or simplistic formulas for getting into the zone as the author defines it. I don't find much appeal in his emphasis on trying to analyze and even direct your own dreams ( literally dreams that you dream when asleep, not dreams as in what you hope for). But this part of the text is the only place where he doesn't hit the nail on the head, and anyone who works through this and applies it will see not only their sports performance improve, but hopefully also will see their life in general also improve, as he emphasizes applying his principles in everyday life as well. As I said, this is one of the good books on the mental game, but I think that the author's extremely realistic and practical advice sets it apart from others I have read or browsed. And that you can apply it to your daily life is a bonus of the best sort!

This book is easy to read. It lays out what needs to be done to get into the optimal state of mind in which to do your best. Michael Lardon uses concise examples to illustrate his points, which seem to be:* Trust and believe in your dreams;* Prepare fully (practise a lot);* Transform desire (expressed through dreams) into will (by harnessing direction and goals to desire);* Keep everything as simple as possible;* Focus on process not product goals (avoid "monkey mind" where there is a lot of distraction and not much directed effort);* Approach emotions from different perspectives to keep things in context ("know-mind awareness);* Be intrinsically motivated, with extrinsic (especially material) motivation only to supplement the 'pure' intrinsic motivation;* Take action;* Build self-confidence by a) looking to what you've done well before, b) seeing yourself do what others are doing, c) modelling behaviours of others, and d) accepting the faith others express in you.I found the book enjoyable and intriguing, but to me it just hints at what to do to achieve the zone. This is a 162 page essay about what Lardon has observed is common to those who can get into the zone, not how to get there.For a complemntary book that is essentially the equivalent of a gym programme for the mind, I recommend "10 Minute Toughness: The mental training programe for winning before the game begins" by Jason Selk.

I really liked this book. It has already made a difference in how I approach my bowling. I was getting frustrated with myself because I have certain expectations and when they are not met, I would be disappointed in myself. After reading this book, I have been able to readjust my thinking process and have set realistic goals for myself. It is a book that you can return to now and then for a little reminder about how to find your zone. I would highly recommend it.

I do not like 99% of the Self help stuff material available in the market. Majority of the lot just acts like an anesthesia, under whose influence the reader feel protected and self assured. However once the book in back to the shelf, you are back on your old track.This book is first not meant to make you feel better!! It talks about What do you need to do to find your peak performance output. How to compete with yourself and become a better, more efficient person.This book works at multiple levels, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and using its guideline in my everyday life.Best

The bar has been set pretty high this year, and unfortunately, this one did not really live up to my expectations. It didn't help that just a couple of months ago Flowers released The Last Hellfighter, one of my favorite books of the year. That one was superior in every way!I really enjoyed Planet of the Dead, however I just wasn't feeling this one. With that said, there are still some enjoyable moments in this one. Particularly, Polk's new prosthetic arm, Amy Horrigan's news coverage on the Siege of Washington, and the disturbing new religious cult that is forming.There are going to be several more books in this series, so if you enjoyed the first one as much as I did, you are going to still want to read this one, as I am hoping for greater things to come!

This book starts right from the beginning. Great action and suspense from a bunch of different viewpoints. Really enjoyed reading how it all began and waiting for the next book.

It jumps around a lot which is all well and good but it just seems to be missing something and I am not sure what it is right now.

Loved the book! Can't wait for the next one. It's an awesome read and very enjoyable. I recommend it to anyone that likes the horror genre.

Great series! The back story is well thought out and is packed with many threads all going smoothly into a good darn read! I am a bit upset because the next part is due out in Fall 2019! I'll be waiting, but I read alot, so by the time a part__, comes out, I've forgotten or need to be refreshed about the prior reads.

Second in series keeps going from the first book. Action packed, great characters. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

The writing is terrible. It looks like a 3rd grader wrote it. I was shocked as I kept reading. I can't believe this is the same guy who wrote "Have Gun Will Travel" about Death Row. That book was very well written and informative. This book is trash.

I can't add much more than what Ahmad said in his review. This book was not very insightful about Dr. Dre beyond what many of us have heard or read through the years. This book felt like one long article from Vibe or The Source. Although it was all chronological and brought together the information in a clear format, it still felt like very "surface" information. Some of the best info revolved around the transition from N.W.A. to trying to complete/distribute the Chronic.I would recommend the book for a Dre fan. For someone looking for a good hip hop bio/auto-bio I would recommend Jermaine Dupri's book which has a lot more in depth info regarding J.D. and the things that happened to get him where he is today. Its not totally fair to compare a biography with an autobiography, so this Dre book did what it could given what I'm sure was available to work with.

I knew most of this stuff before reading it but the pre NWA stuff was real good and new to me. Biggest suprise that came out of this book was how established DRE was a producer when they started NWA and how much money he had made with Ruthless (he was doing pretty good) but still deserved more.

Book arrive much sooner than expected date. My boyfriend was very happy with it!!

Kind of chessy

This Biography reads well at times, at other times the author stumbles between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd persons. With single line, dry and sometimes non emotional quotes this book reads more like a magazine article than an in depth biography. Entertaining yes it is, but the book leaves a lot to be desired. I would have loved to have read excerpts before purchasing this book, as word flow and continuity are paramount to my expectations of any books in my library. I probably wouldn't have bought this book had I had the opportunity to sample the authors writing style.

The story is good, but the writing is horrible!

Huge Dr.Dre fan and I knew alot about his history but the book added even more to his story. I loved the stories about the productions of many of the great songs. The wrecking crew and early NWA days. Just a awesome read for any hip hop fan.

I bought this book to complete my Midwest Garden book collection. I thought it is a superb resource for myself being a beginner to intermediate gardener. I really enjoyed the section on composting, as I want to begin doing that this year. The detailed zone maps are my favorite resource, the pictures are lovely, and I love the organization of the content. It is easy to look up a plant description. But most importantly, this book is full of tips and tricks to grow a lovely garden.

Very pleased with quality of information in this book.I believe it will be reall helpful as I continue expanding my flower beds.

I consider myself a (very!) serious recreational player, and this book really helped me improve my game in tournament play. For now, I play Sit & Go's, 6 person table, with 1st-3rd prizes. Prior to reading this book, I'd burst on the bubble, or if I made the money, 90% of the time I'd just get 3rd place. The strategies outlined in this guide were very easy to implement in my game style, and I noticed a difference! Since reading this book, I have been consistently getting 1st and 2nd place wins, (mostly 2nd place) with just one 3rd place win the other day. No more bursting on the bubble!Totally recommend this book for anyone wanting to improve their tournament game.

I'm pretty new to poker, so I started off by reading Harrington on Holdem. It's a great book but the strategy is not the best for the low stakes that I like to play. I was really frustrated by not being able to win consistently. I thought maybe poker is just luck after all. I found this book and decided to try it out. It has made a huge difference in how I play. It is written so exciting, I couldn't stop reading.Equally well written are his memories about his life in Paris, about the artists he was friends with and his research about the life of people in the Soviet Union during the Cold War.I share with him the love for mountains.

A wonderful memoir. Beginning with his flight, as a child, from the Soviets in Western Ukraine during WWII, Mr. Martyniuk takes the reader along on a fascinating journey culminating with his work at Radio Liberty and the collapse of the USSR. With a keen eye for observation, he skillfully weaves history, politics, travel, and a passion for art and early church architecture into the mix. Never far from the narrative is an abhorrence for what the Russians did to his family and homeland under communism and beyond. And as an abiding devotee of the European Classical Tradition, he is at his most eloquent in deconstructing the corrosive impact of socialism and militant Islam upon Western Culture. His is a first rate account of one man's odyssey in the last six decades of the 20th Century, as eclectic in its points of interest as it has been committed in purpose.
