Humberto Cervantes is a professor at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Iztapalapa in Mexico City. Since 2006, Cervantes has been a consultant for software development companies in topics related to software architecture. He has authored numerous research papers and popularization articles, and has also coauthored one of the few books in Spanish on the topic of software architecture. Cervantes received a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Université Joseph Fourier in Grenoble, France. He holds the Software Architecture Professional and ATAM Evaluator certificates from the SEI.   Rick Kazman is a professor at the University of Hawaii and a principal researcher at the Software Engineering Institute of Carnegie Mellon University. His primary research interests are software architecture, design and analysis tools, software visualization, and software engineering economics. Kazman has created several highly influential methods and tools for architecture analysis, including the SAAM (Software Architecture Analysis Method), the ATAM (Architecture Tradeoff Analysis Method), the CBAM (Cost-Benefit Analysis Method), and the Dali and Titan tools. He is the author of more than one hundred fifty peer-reviewed papers, and is coauthor of several books, including Software Architecture in Practice, Third Edition (Addison-Wesley, 2013), Evaluating Software Architectures (Addison-Wesley, 2002), and Ultra-Large-Scale Systems. First off, I’ve read this book right after reading Software Architecture in Practice and that would probably be the most efficient way of getting thought the material. Otherwise many topics will seem too shallow/brief etc (i.e. tactics to achieve needed quality attribute response).I also read Microsoft Application Architecture Guidance (which is a very good book on its own) several years ago and recognized many ideas taken from there (the authors explicitly mentioned that).The book gives good examples on how to apply structural thinking to sophisticated tasks that a software architect usually faces. It also deliberates on the necessity of principled methods applied to the field of software architecture and the justification is quite convincing. Now I’m frequently referring to the book during my day to day activities because I’ve found some patterns (i.e. method of defining and relating together usecases, quality attribute scenarios and constraints) extremely useful and practical.Now for the area of possible improvements...While reading the book I had the feeling that the material is substantially scoped to describing ‘information systems’ architecture where you’ve got the data, store it somewhere, transform and show to a user. Obviously the architecture of anti-virus, OS, computer game with intensive GPU usage, car's autipilot will be quite different and the particularities will be rather specific – the book doesn’t touch those topics much, at least that’s my impression. Obviously one can tell that 'the generic principles are the same' or 'use ADD and move forward', but to my mind that's not enough to get the gist of architectural concepts for those non 'information systems' software.The book talks mostly about ADD method for designing software architecture and shows how to apply this method in various cases. The method is quite good on its own, but has a very strong prerequisite – you have to have primary functionality and quality attribute scenarios identified and prioritized before applying ADD. In reality it’s a very tedious task in large-scale systems with myriads of stakeholders (make assumptions, refine them, throw away wrong assumptions etc..). The book very briefly touches upon other methods, i.e. ACDM, and I’d like to read more on how to apply them as well.There’s some overlap with Software Architecture in Practice book. Most noticeable is chapter 8 Analysis in the Design Process that is very similar to some parts of chapter 14 Quality Attribute Modeling and Analysis of Software Architecture in Practice book. Not a huge issue though.There are some nasty issues with colors on diagrams. Seemingly originally some images had been created in color and afterwards they were converted into grayscale with slight adjustments. Sometimes it is well enough and I was able to grasp the meaning easily but quite often that conversion significantly impaired the understanding. The worst example of this issue is on p.77 – Use case model for the FCAPS system.The book seemingly has borrowed the reference architecture diagrams and concepts from Microsoft P&P Application Architecture Guide 2nd edition. With very slight adjustments. The bad thing is that some structures are outdated, mostly because Microsoft’s book was published in 2009 – the time when Silverlight and Flash reigned the space of rich internet applications. Today it’s not 100% clear how Angular-based apps fit into this picture – whether those are web applications? RIA applications? In addition the meaning of ‘Web Applications’ reference architecture borrowed from Microsoft’s book is not clear in relation to today’s reality. The original concept talked about server-side rendering of HTML whereas that technical concept is not widely used anymore for building web applications.The example of applying ADD to brownfield domain is too contrived in my opinion. It’s so contrived that the value brought by the example is seriously diminished. In reality we deal with much more sophisticated multilevel changes in existing systems of large scale. I didn’t get the feeling of that ‘large scale’ and ‘multilevelness’.Quite a long list of possible improvements, but that’s not to say that the book is bad. I definitely recommend reading this book to any software/solution architect, but at the same time there is an obvious room for improvement in substance and form.

For those that are already educated in our surveillance society, this book may seem like a compilation of common sense. It is simply an introduction that overviews aspects of how all dimensions of life is being compiled into a formal database that caters to our self-interest. The best part of this book, beyond the information given, is the ease of reading. It is definitely NOT a challenging book. Unless you interpret it as a challenger of your perspective of life...then it may be challenging. As far as diction and syntax goes it is a totally easy read. I recommend this to anyone who possesses the slightest interest or curiosity in learning or becoming more knowledgeable in the operations of modern advertisement, tracking, and biopower/biopolitics.

The writing is clear and concise. However, there is nothing new here. There are no shocking revelations here. Most of the stuff in the book is public knowledge. I also would had liked to see something in the book about how all of this surveillance the book describes is a good or bad, for society as a whole. The pro's and con's of it.

My 7 year old son wanted a book about tanks so I found this one. It has side elevation drawings of each vehicle, one per tank so don't expect a lot of extra detail. It makes a good basic guide. My son loves it so much he even uses it for his copy writing practice.

7yo tank enthusiast loved this for Christmas. He and his brother have read and reread this. They can identify different tanks and quote stats. It is pretty cute!

Excellent source of illustrations and information on a wide variety of armored vehicles.

Great reference for the time period included. Wish the one for the post 1940 time period was readily available. Waited over a month for it to come in until I finally cancelled the order.

Covers a plethora of different submarines. The problem for the author is the sheer numbers to include. He made a reasonable set of choices-some I liked, and some that I wish were included. Overall a well-done effort.

Pretty good. Strange how they put so much emphasis on amphibious vehicles.

This is an amazing, beautiful, deep, heart-rending, uplifting work, based completely on the Bible but with a bit of dramatic license in order to present the life of Christ in the format of a radio play. Every page brings new insights into events which are almost overly familiar to me. I would love to see it performed by, say, a youth group or speech-and-debate club. I was already a huge fan of Dorothy Sayers from some of her other books, and I regret waiting so long to read this work. I have been buying copies for many of my friends who I know would enjoy it as much as I do. FYI: the original BBC broadcasts of this play from the 1940s can be found online, and I am enjoying listening to them as I read the text. [Update: these are not currently available, but several churches in both the UK and USA have performed these plays in the last few years, and some have posted their recordings online. I don't know if we can put links in reviews, but look for, for example, St Michael's Church in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, UK – they performed the last 5 plays during Holy Week 2012 and have done us all a wonderful favor by posting their recordings on their church website.]I am more than halfway through this book, and unfortunately there are some truly awful typos, the result (I assume) of the text having been scanned; for example, in the list of characters for the first play, Herod's name is given as "Heard," and elsewhere "carriage" becomes "carnage." The book should have been proofread before publication! I will be sending the publishers a list of errata as soon as I am done. I *am* grateful to Classical Academic Press for bringing this work back into print, and with such a beautiful cover; I hope they will incorporate the corrections into a new edition soon.UPDATE 18 Feb. (Ash Wednesday): Yes! Rob at CAP (see the comments on the reviews) asked for my list of errata, and says there may be a new edition as early as next month! Kudos to CAP for their commitment to excellence, and to the integrity of this work.

I wish I could give this book 8 stars. First of all, the quality of the used hardcover book was as described (very good condition); the content beyond compare. It was originally written as a series of 11 (radio) plays for the BBC during WWII, and stands the test of time. It humanizes Jesus and those around Him in the best possible way, with some wonderful little British idioms as a bonus (Matthew is Cockney!). I cannot recommend highly enough "The Man Born to be King."

Dorothy Sayers was a contemporary of C. S. Lewis. They belonged to a very small group of writers at Oxford who read their works in progress to each other, asking for ideas. She is well known for her Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries. In the case of this book, it was written as a series to be run on the radio in England. The story of Jesus, the Son of God, is told by means of conversations between Jesus, among his followers, and with members of the public. It is easy reading, no descriptions except those at the beginning of each chapter describing the nature of each character who will be heard in that chapter. You can read those or give them a pass. Her books are usually very wordy, could have done with some judicious cutting. This radio drama moves quickly. You know the story and how it ends, but I found it interesting to feel like I was with His followers, listening in on all the conversations.

Dorothy Sayers is one of the gifted writers of the 20th century, known by most for her Peter Wimsey novels. This series of plays, written for public broadcast by the BBC in the early 1940s, gives us a fully dimensional understanding of the public ministry, trial, and execution of Jesus of Nazareth. And His resurrection . If you have puzzled over the "flat" accounts in the Biblical gospels, it is because, Sayers would tell us, they are densely packed. Dorothy Sayers unpacks them for us with her true writer's skill. You will not put this book down. You will read it through and want to start all over again. (As C.S. Lewis did each year in Lent.)

This series of plays on Jesus' life and ministry reflects Dorothy Sayers' genius as a playwright and her deep adoration of Jesus Christ the Savior. Her insightful rendering of the different characters - from the very human disciples to Judas to Pilate - saturates the writing with moving credibility. Required for a seminary class, it fully offset the other, laborious scholarly research reading.

Based principally on the gospel of John, this is a book that I re-read so regularly that I am now on my 4th copy. As each copy fell apart through heavy use, I acquired another one.

I read about this book and the plays therein. I am pleased with the condition of the book and even more so because it is a welcome addition to my Dorothy Sayers collection.

I've been a fan of Dorothy Sayers for decades--mainly of her Lord Peter Wimsey detective novels and her translations of Dante. I was intrigued to see what she did with the script for the 1944 BBC radio program on the life of Christ. She brings deep scholarship, readability, and personal faith to this interesting script.

What a gem of a book! Very charming and big on the history of the great seafood of P-town and Wellfleet. I can't wait to cook from it but so far it has been fun to read. Even the cooking instructions are entertaining.

everything i've made from here is fantastic. a very antiquated mentality, to be fair, and sometimes borderline politically incorrect, but if you can get past that, the food advice is spot on to say the least. my only real complaint on that score is that sometimes the measurements are like "1 cellophane bag" or "a size 12 can" or whatever that's really not terminology that's used any more...

Anthony Bourdain's recommendation sold me. I wish I had purchased it sooner.
